Being Born Again … and creating something truly remarkable Photos by Jessica Klingelfuss. Tonight I’m off to the Being Born Again Couture fashion show, which brings together some of Australia’s top fashion and art talent (think the likes of Akira Isogawa, Nicola Finetti, Marnie Skillings, Lindy Lee, Tracey Moffatt and Guy Peppin, to name just a few), as well as beautiful music, art installations and bunny rabbits. It’s a project of two of my best friends, Davina Reichman (right) and Emily Fitzgerald (left), and I am so, so proud of them. I often feel like we live in an age dominated by hype at the expense of action, false praise at the expense of taking the time to create something great. Conversely, we also live in a society that looks at people who do try to do something great - or even something a little bit out of the ordinary - as if they are mad, or attempting to rise above their station. What continues to impress me though are those who are innovative, who take risks and make things that most would consider to be impossible happen. Emily and Davina aren’t fashion insiders (or at least they weren’t before they started out on this project). But through smarts, perseverance and sheer gumption, they have managed to create something quite incredible. I tip my hat to them. I’ll be playing MC and co-hosting the auction tonight, along with Chris Taylor of Chaser fame, and Lucy Howard-Taylor of Biting Anorexia fame.
